Retain Top Talent Through Training

As millennials continue to infiltrate the workforce, a job-hopping reputation precedes them.  As mentioned by  Forbes,“The average worker today stays at each of his or her jobs for 4.4 years, according to the most recent available data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, but the expected tenure of the workforce’s youngest employees is about half that.

Ninety-one percent of Millennials (born between 1977-1997) expect to stay in a job for less than three years, according to the Future Workplace “Multiple Generations @ Work” survey of 1,189 employees and 150 managers,” (Source).

As you build your company brand, culture, and team with top talent, how do you keep employees engaged and avoid the loss of fresh perspectives?  As mentioned in Harvard Business Review, “Dissatisfaction with some employee-development efforts appears to fuel many early exits. We asked young managers what their employers do to help them grow in their jobs and what they’d like their employers to do, and found some large gaps. Workers reported that companies generally satisfy their needs for on-the-job development and that they value these opportunities, which include high-visibility positions and significant increases in responsibility. But they’re not getting much in the way of formal development, such as training, mentoring, and coaching—things they also value highly,” (Source).

Devoting some time to employee training and development can have a huge ROI.  As mentioned in 5 Surprising Employee Development Statistics You Don’t Know,

  • Training and development spend has risen by 15% in the last year alone.
  • 40% of employees who receive poor job training leave their positions within the first year.
  • As one of the top three non-financial motivators, 76% of employees want opportunities for career growth.
